- Repurpose a Computer Power Supply: I had an old PC that I cannibalized for parts before recycling it. One day, an old notebook pc’s fan failed. So, I put the notebook on an impromptu wireframe rack and positioned a small personal hand fan under it. It seemed to do the job, but I wanted something with more oomph! I used the power supply and fans I’d taken from that discarded computer and not only solved a cooling problem, I now have 12VDC and 5VDC with plenty of Amps to do more work (e.g. power USB cables to recharge phones/devices).
